Season Planning
A well-planned season makes production sustainable and gives your audience a clear arc to follow. Here's the framework we use with most of our clients:
- Season length: 8–10 episodes is the sweet spot — substantial enough to establish a library, manageable enough to produce consistently
- Cadence: Biweekly (every two weeks) is the standard we recommend — weekly can burn out a solo host, monthly loses momentum
- Season timeline: A 10-episode biweekly season runs approximately 20 weeks from launch
- Buffer stock: Record 2–3 episodes before launching so you have a cushion for production delays
Episode Length
The ideal episode length depends on your format and audience, but our data-backed recommendation:
22–30 Minutes
The sweet spot for most interview and narrative shows. Fits a commute, holds attention, and forces tight editing.
Under 15 Minutes
Great for daily briefings, solo commentary, or educational micro-series where brevity is the value proposition.
45–60 Minutes
Works for established long-form shows with loyal audiences. Requires strong editing to maintain engagement throughout.
Key Episode Elements
- Intro: Branded open with theme music and a short host welcome (30–60 seconds)
- Outro: Consistent close with call to action — subscribe, review, share, or visit a URL
- Theme Music: Sets the tone and makes your show instantly recognizable across platforms
- CTAs: Mid-roll and end-of-episode calls to action — keep them short and specific
- Ad Breaks: If monetizing, plan natural break points during outlining, not after recording
Recording Setup Comparison
Studio Recording
Best audio quality, controlled environment, requires scheduling all guests in one location. Ideal for narrative and highly produced formats.
